Beth Beard, M.Ed., FMCHC, NBC-HWC

At Resilient By Design, I support people who want to take an active role in their health — with clarity, compassion, and practical tools that fit real life.

I’m Beth Beard, M.Ed., FMCHC, NBC-HWC, a functional medicine certified health coach accredited by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching with decades of experience across mental health, education, leadership development, community-based work, nutrition and culinary healing. My work is grounded in a deep belief that healing happens when people are supported to understand their bodies, reconnect with their strengths, and build resilience in ways that are sustainable and life-affirming.

At Resilient By Design, I believe that health is not about perfection. It’s about capacity — building the knowledge, skills, and self-trust to respond to life with flexibility and intention. My role is to walk alongside you as a guide, educator, and thought partner, helping you design a way of caring for your health that is sustainable, informed, and truly your own.

My coaching approach is holistic, strength-based, and deeply person-centered. I partner with clients to address the lifestyle, metabolic, and environmental factors that influence physical and mental health, using evidence-informed functional medicine coaching approacyes to change. Together, we clarify goals, identify personal values and motivators, and create realistic pathways toward lasting change.

I work with individuals at many stages of their health journey, with a particular focus on:

  • Women navigating perimenopause and menopause, who want support with metabolic health, mood, energy, weight changes, and overall vitality

  • People living with mental health challenges who are interested in a functional medicine approach that explores the connections between metabolism, nutrition, inflammation, stress, and emotional wellbeing

  • Clients using GLP-1 medications for weight loss or diabetes, who want coaching support to protect muscle mass, stabilize blood sugar, nourish their bodies, and build sustainable habits alongside medication

My perspective is shaped by a unique integrative background. I spent years as a narrative family therapist working with individuals and families experiencing complex challenges and trauma, led national and international health and education initiatives, and have owned and operated a thriving personal chef business focused on healing with food. This diverse experience allows me to see health not as a set of isolated symptoms, but as an interconnected system influenced by biology, relationships, environment, and daily choices.

At Resilient By Design, I believe lasting health is built through understanding, curiosity, and compassion — not perfection or quick fixes. My role is to listen deeply, offer education and practical guidance, and walk alongside you as you build resilience, confidence, and a sense of agency in your health, now and over the long term.

My Philosophy

I’ve always been drawn to big ideas. I love digging deep for root causes, stretching wide to connect people and networks. Looking back, one theme has guided my journey: the path to optimal health begins and ends with resilience.

Resilience is the secret sauce—the necessary condition, the “pixie dust.” Defined as the ability of complex adaptive systems to respond to change, resilience looks remarkably similar in healthy brains, bodies, individuals, families, communities, and ecosystems. It is the magic of neuroplasticity, emotional regulation, metabolic flexibility, deep social connectivity, and ecosystem diversity. It is that beautiful dance between homeostasis and adaptation, between stability and change. My superpower is creating the space where the magic happens. Where resilience takes root and grows.

I believe that:

  • People are not broken — they are adaptive, resourceful, and capable of change

  • Health is shaped by interconnected systems, not isolated symptoms

  • Sustainable change happens when goals align with values, context, and real life

  • Education, curiosity, and self-compassion are powerful tools for healing

  • Support should increase confidence and agency, not dependence

My coaching is grounded in functional medicine principles, but it is always guided by you. Together, we focus on building understanding, strengthening capacity, and creating strategies that fit your life — so you can move forward with clarity, resilience, and trust in yourself.
